PointsBet Ontario Review

PointsBet runs a regulated online sportsbook and casino for players in Ontario, registered with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) and under an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. Its parent company has been majority-owned by Japan's MIXI since 2025. In October 2026 it settled an AGCO case over unreported suspicious NBA bets by accepting a two-day suspension of its Ontario site and an independent audit. It was the AGCO's third action against PointsBet since 2022.

Who runs PointsBet in Ontario

The Ontario operator is PointsBet Canada Operations 1 Inc., part of PointsBet Holdings, an Australian company. MIXI, a Japanese internet company, bought control in 2025. PointsBet sold its US business to Fanatics in 2024, so it now operates in Australia and Canada.

The AGCO told MIXI in July 2025 that it had no concerns with the deal, and iGaming Ontario gave its written confirmation (PointsBet ASX announcement, July 7, 2025). MIXI Australia's offer closed on September 12, 2025 with 66.43% of the voting power (MIXI Australia, September 16, 2025).

What it offers

PointsBet's Ontario site has a sportsbook and a casino under one account, with “Sports” and “Casino” tabs, and the “PointsBet Sportsbook & Casino” app on iOS and Android. Its footer points to deposit, loss and time limits (on.pointsbet.ca, seen November 4, 2026). We haven't tested deposits or withdrawals.

We don't list PointsBet's offers. In Ontario, operators may show bonus offers only on their own site or to players who have agreed to receive them (AGCO Registrar's Standards for Internet Gaming, standard 2.05).

PointsBet's AGCO record

On February 12, 2026, the AGCO proposed a five-day suspension over NBA games involving Jontay Porter in a 2024 bet-rigging scheme later indicted by the US Department of Justice. It said PointsBet first told it that it had offered no bets on Porter, then acknowledged about 18 months later that it had. The AGCO alleged a systemic failure to detect and report suspicious betting.

On October 20, 2026, the settlement cut the suspension to two days and required an independent audit, with the auditor and method approved by the AGCO and the fixes independently validated. No dates were given for the suspension.

It wasn't PointsBet's first AGCO penalty. In May 2022, a month after the market opened, the AGCO fined it C$30,000 over GO train and station posters that offered a chance to play for free. In November 2023 it issued C$150,000 in penalties: the AGCO said a player lost more than C$500,000 in under three months, PointsBet's systems flagged the player as possibly high-risk several times and nobody stepped in, a 24-hour cooling-off period wasn't applied when the player cancelled a deposit limit, the player received C$35,500 in credits after withdrawing consent to marketing, and staff weren't trained to help players at risk.

PointsBet wasn't the only one. Between August and October 2026 the AGCO also acted against theScore Bet (C$200,000), Betty (C$120,000), NorthStar (C$100,000) and Booming Games (C$70,000). More in our article on the PointsBet settlement and the AGCO's other penalties.

  1. April 2022: PointsBet posters on GO trains and at two GO stations offered a chance to play for free.
  2. May 3, 2022: C$30,000 penalty over the posters (standard 2.05, bonus advertising).
  3. November 9, 2023: C$150,000 in penalties over responsible gambling.
  4. 2024: PointsBet offered bets on NBA games involving Jontay Porter, then told the AGCO it had offered none.
  5. February 12, 2026: the AGCO proposed a five-day suspension.
  6. October 20, 2026: settlement: a two-day suspension and an independent audit.

What Ontario's rules give you

Ontario's rules promise players at licensed sites that offers are achievable as shown and that nobody under 19 may play. Slots can't auto-play, there must be a minimum time between spins, and no feature may disguise a loss as a win.

A dispute goes to the operator first: use its formal complaints process and allow it up to 90 days to decide. If that doesn't resolve it, you can complain to the AGCO through iAGCO, quoting the operator's complaint reference number. The AGCO can penalise the operator, but it can't get your money back. Complaints about responsible gambling or advertising can go to the AGCO directly.

casin.com verdict

Suits Ontario players who want a sportsbook and a casino in one regulated account. Set your own deposit and loss limits when you sign up: in 2023 the AGCO said PointsBet's checks flagged a player at risk several times and nobody stepped in.

Not for anyone outside Ontario. PointsBet is registered with Alberta's regulator, the AGLC, but it isn't on Alberta iGaming Corporation's list of approved sites (checked November 4, 2026), so it can't take bets in Alberta.

The 2026 case is about reporting suspicious sports bets, and the 2022 penalty was about advertising. The 2023 penalty is the one that touched a player directly: the AGCO said PointsBet failed to step in while a player at risk lost more than C$500,000. None of the cases is about casino payouts, and the 2026 case ended with an audit the regulator approves.
